One
of the biggest dilemmas for a patient suffering
from acid reflux is what to eat and what not to
eat. In the conventional line of treatment related
to stomach ailments bland food are advocated.
However, the bland food after sometime induce the
craving for normal food, and it triggers the
incidence of heartburn. However there is no need
to despair. You can whip up magical recipes for
acid reflux from the limited variety of food
and fruits that you are allowed to eat and lead a
good life.
Cake
is one of such categories which are advocated for
avoidance. Would it then mean that you should not
have the cake? It is not so. You can have the
angel food cake which takes only 15 minutes to
prepare and 30 minutes is the baking time before
you can dip your fingers into this tasteful
recipe. The ingredients of angel cake are, 1 cup
superfine sugar, divided into 3/4 cup and 1/4 cup
portions, 1 cup sifted cake flour, 12 large egg
whites, at room temperature, 1 teaspoon cream of
tartar,1/2 teaspoon salt and 2 teaspoons vanilla
extract.
Preparation:
Preheat
oven to 375 degrees F.
In a
medium bowl whisk together ¾ cup sugar and the
flour. Set aside.
In a
large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed
to beat the egg whites until they are thick and
foamy.
Add
cream of tartar, salt, and vanilla. Set electric
mixer to high speed, and beat until soft peaks
form.
Sprinkle
the remaining sugar gradually over the top of the
batter while continuing to beat. Continue to beat
until stiff and glossy. In your enthusiasm to
prepare the cake, do not beat the concoction
beyond the limits as it would spoil the taste.
Gently
and quickly fold the flour mixture into the egg
white mixture, using a rubber spatula or slotted
spoon.
Pour
the batter into a 10-inch tube pan, with removable
sides, but the base of the panel not greased at
all.
With
a knife to cut through the batter to eliminate any
air pockets.
Bake
for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a tester inserted
the center comes out clean. Invert the cake over a
funnel, or narrow bottle to cool.
Run
a long, thin knife around the side of the cake to
release the sides of the
pan.
This
cake is made out of heartburn free constituents
and you can enjoy the same to your heart's
content.
